ABOUT FIONA
Me and Leo,
a massive but gentle Friesian

I've never met a horse I didn't want to paint.

Hi and welcome. I'm so glad you're here. I'm happy that you are interested in my work and I'm excited to share it with you!  I promise I won't blather on too much about myself, but I've had a kind of interesting life, and I paint in a very interesting style, so I'll tell you a little about it.

I was born in the US, however, my family moved to New Zealand when I was 8.  It was there that my passion for horses pretty much took hold.  New Zealand was a fantastic place to grow up - especially since there are horses every where, a little girls paradise for sure!  I've always drawn and painted horses and other animals, however, it was in NZ that I started painting horses almost exclusively.

I've been a professional equine artist for the past five years.   I specialize in painting Arabians.   I moved to Scottsdale in the mid 90's and was very excited to find out that many of the country's top Arabian breeders & trainers were just a few miles away from my home. YIPPEE.   My very first visit to an Arabian Horse open house changed my life.  When the first horse came out I gasped. He floated past me and then put on the most magnificent show.   He was one of the most beautiful animals I have ever seen.  I've been painting Arabians ever since.

However, I love all horses. I'm now painting other breeds of horses.  And I'm having a blast!

One of the new friends I met at the famous Varian Arabians' Mare Walk

I paint the modern horse in a dynamic, contemporary way.
I do not paint in a romantic style, my work is certainly not traditional by any means!   I want my work to stand out and showcase the dynamism, and special kind of spirit that every horse has.

My art is for the person who is looking for something different in the way horses are portrayed. The way they are today. So charismatic and beautiful, I want to convey that magic.  My intention with the borders I paint around the horse is to create a feeling of them "Coming at Ya"!   The borders are my trademark and are as interesting to paint as the horse.

I also paint pet portraits. I enjoy capturing the personality and essence of each pet I am entrusted to paint.

Well that's enough of my story. I hope that you enjoy exploring my website and that you'll find something you'd like to purchase to grace your living space.   There's something here for all budgets and I offer my work in many different sizes to fit any space.

Thanks for visiting - come back often as I will constantly be adding new paintings!

Now for all of you that do want to know more of the gory details about me as an artist - please carry on reading!

My Artist Statement

I create exciting, dynamic equine art that conveys the essence of the modern horse and my deep love for them.
